🍬 Trick for Treats: Keep Teeth Healthy This Halloween
Halloween brings plenty of fun—costumes, celebrations, and of course, candy! While sweets can leave teeth vulnerable, a few simple tricks and good oral care habits will help your family enjoy the holiday while keeping smiles healthy.

🎃 Tricks for Treats
- Use A Smaller Bag: Send children out with a smaller bag when trick-or-treating.
- Limit Candy Consumption: Offer treats after meals when kids are less hungry.
- Swap Out Candy: Trade candy for other rewards like a new toy or a fun outing.
- Coconut Oil Swish: Helps teeth resist sugar and plaque buildup.
- Drink Water: Especially after chewy and sticky candy. This helps dissolve any remaining sugar on teeth and wash it away.
- Brush and Floss: Twice daily, can help reduce sugar build-up and cavities.
🍫 Friendlier Candies & Treats
- Chocolates: Plain chocolate dissolves quickly, reducing sugar exposure to teeth.
- Powdered Sugar Candies (Rockets, Pixie Sticks): Dissolve faster than sticky candy, so teeth are less exposed to sugar.
- Sugar Free Gum: Activates salivary glands to wash away sugar from candy.
- Cheese: Leaves a protective coating on teeth, preventing sugar from damaging enamel.
- Nuts: Healthy and don’t leave sugar behind in your mouth.
🚫 Candies & Treats to Avoid
- Gummies, Caramels, Chews, Dried Fruit, Nougat: Sticky candies wedge between teeth, causing cavities.
- Hard Candies & Lollipops: Can chip teeth and soak your mouth in sugar for a long time.
- Sour Candies: Acid erodes enamel, leading to cavities.
- Chips: Not sugary but get stuck in teeth and cause cavities.
Halloween is about enjoying the moment—and with these simple tips, you can keep your smile healthy while savoring your favorite treats. 🎃
